Dreams...sweet dreams

Here we are, barely a year after our first ideas. I’ll never forget the moment. My husband and I were sitting in front of our house (which was already for sale at that moment), watching our little girl play and just talking a bit. We actually had bought a new house near Utrecht, slightly larger, a much bigger garden and a lot more nature surrounding it, but that sale fell through. We found that the both of us didn’t really mind that we wouldn’t be living there. We couldn’t quite understand why neither of us were sad. My husband very gently started to talk about his old dream about moving to another country. My jaw dropped; that was the answer! That’s why we weren’t sad, the other house didn’t feel right because it still wouldn’t give us the nature and space we so longed for. It would also lack the adventurous aspect and we would probably soon find ourselves in a similar position we were currently in. For us, it just wouldn’t be enough.

Strangely enough we decided where to move to pretty quickly; I wanted to move to a country where they speak English. England wasn’t an option; way too much rain. Australia was considered but because of the climate they have these huge bugs; ieuw! Ok, the travelling time (20 hours) was an obstacle for us too. America just didn’t feel good. Canada quickly topped our list. My husband had visited the country before and loved it. A quick survey of the country led us to the Alberta region. The Rocky Mountains in our backyard so to speak, appealed to us. We started to investigate more and soon after fell in love.

Looking at our options for a visa learned that a job was pretty essential. At the same time it proved to be quite difficult. There were a lot of interested companies but one after the other bailed on us because we didn’t have a visa. We are now in the running for a fantastic job and we still have some hopes of this working out for us but luckily we have a backup plan. A plan that will cost us a lot but will also ensure a visa. So, we can now say that this summer, we will be leaving Holland. This summer we will be moving to Canada. (I can’t believe I’m actually saying this!)

Apart from some friends and family, it’s still a big secret. So, please keep this to yourself until its al formally arranged, ok? J
